As My End Approaches

The hooded rider that is Death

Heads for my soul with great speed.

I can hear the thundering hooves

And wet snorts of his Dark Stead.

All my wealth, awards, and praise

Are worth a handful of dust.

For Death cares not of these things

And dissolves them in a gust.

But as I remember the lives I have touched,

I realize death is not the end, merely a new start.

For all those whom I have loved and been loved back

Give me eternal home in their memories and hearts.

And now the final sun of my life has set.

I die with a smile, for I know not regret.
