The Living Fire

Fire is a mysterious thing;

It exhales smoke, and ash it flings.

Whistles and crackles make the song it sings,

And acts as if it is a living thing.

It can travel across the land,

Though it does not have legs on which to stand.

It can keep moving until it encounters water or sand,

Burning all it touches with its fiery hands.

Man has harnessed this fiery foe,

Giving us the ability to see thanks to its glow.

We use its heat to cook our food, whether fast or slow,

And the heat helps stay warm in the winter snow.

The creature called Fire can be man’s foe or friend,

It is a truly mysterious gift that the God’s hath send.
